Announcement of the start of operation of the Global Logistics Center - Aiming for global distribution/inventory capacity expansion with operational automation and optimization -
Menicon Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 21-19, Aoi 3, Naka-ku, Nagoya, Japan; President and COO: Koji Kawaura) established the Global Logistics Center in Yachiyo City, Chiba Prefecture, as a contact lens distribution center and commenced full-scale operations on May 7, 2024.
Menicon has previously operated four logistics centers in Japan, including three domestic centers in Nagoya (Aichi Prefecture), Northern Japan (Miyagi Prefecture), and Western Japan (Fukuoka Prefecture), and one international center in Komaki (Aichi Prefecture). In addition to importing foreign products, the newly established Global Logistics Center, integrating the functions of the Northern Japan and Komaki centers,*1 delivers contact lenses to clients and customers all over Japan (primarily north of the Kanto area) as well as across the world.
In recent years, the demand for daily disposable contact lenses has increased within and outside Japan, creating an urgent need for the establishment of a more stable logistics system. At the Global Logistics Center, which has the largest capacity in our company to accommodate future increases in the number of product items and inventories, we will realize a reduction in workload and manpower with operational automation and digitalization to develop a new logistics system suitable for our sales strategy.
Located in Chiba Prefecture, the new logistics center is expected to further improve our domestic service levels in the Kanto area. Moreover, given the center’s access to Tokyo Port and Narita Airport that enables efficient import and export of products, it will be a vital distribution center for our global business.
We outsource the warehouse work to Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Fukuyama, Hiroshima; Chairman and CEO: Shigehiro Komaru) by leasing the Chiba Yachiyo branch of Fukuyama Transporting, which was newly established in September 2023.
Under the system to consistently pursue “safety” with Fukuyama Transporting, Menicon will further reinforce the logistics system to provide customers worldwide with high-quality logistics and services.
