Menicon Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 21-19, Aoi 3, Naka-ku, Nagoya, Japan; President and COO: Koji Kawaura) announced that it has introduced CO₂-free electricity “Gifu Seiryu Green Electricity” to its two contact lens production plants located in Gifu Prefecture (Kakamigahara Plant: Kakamigahara, Gifu; Seki Plant: Seki, Gifu).
The Menicon Group is committed to achieving a healthy and spiritually rich society through the provision of products and services useful to society, while contributing to harmony among people, society, and the global environment. In particular, we focus on climate change as an important issue and promote actions to realize a decarbonized society inside and outside Japan. As part of efforts to achieve these actions, we introduced CO₂-free electricity “Gifu Seiryu Green Electricity”.
“Gifu Seiryu Green Electricity” is an electricity source derived from a hydroelectric power plant located in Gifu Prefecture with environmental value, and is sold as CO₂ zero emission electricity made in Gifu by Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co., Inc. It is expected that approximately 9,300 tons of CO₂ emissions will be reduced per year by introducing this CO₂-free electricity “Gifu Seiryu Green Electricity”, and proactive actions can be promoted to “reduce the burden on the global environment” through the local production and consumption of electric power.
In August 2024, Menicon’s Kakamigahara Plant and Seki Plant were certified as Gold Partners of the “Gifu SDGs Promotion Partner Registration System” by Gifu Prefecture for the business operators concentrating efforts to achieve the SDGs as well as working on diverse areas in the three aspects of “environment”, “society”, and “economy” while maintaining the organizational management system above a certain level. Through this introduction of “Gifu Seiryu Green Electricity” we will further contribute to realizing Gifu Prefecture’s commitment to the “Decarbonized Society Gifu”.
