Menicon Group Human Rights Policy

The Menicon Group has established the Menicon Group Human Rights Policy (hereinafter “Policy”) to promote our efforts to respect human rights based on the International Bill of Human Rights (the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenants on Human Rights), the International Labour Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

  1. Scope
    This Policy applies to all officers and employees of the Menicon Group (all staff including executive officers, full-time employees, contract employees, temporary workers, and parttime employees). The Menicon Group will continuously encourage our suppliers and customers to support this Policy and adopt similar policies as well as collaborate with them to promote respect for human rights.
  2. Responsibility to respect human rights
    The Menicon Group will fulfill our responsibility to respect human rights by avoiding the violation of human rights of those who may be affected by our business activities and properly taking corrective measures whenever adverse impacts on human rights are observed in the course of our business activities. In the event that our suppliers and customers cause adverse impacts on human rights, we will exert influence on them and prompt them to take appropriate measures.
  3. Compliance with applicable laws and regulations
    The Menicon Group will comply with laws and regulations of the countries and regions where we conduct our business and will have the utmost respect for and actively promote international human rights standards.
  4. Education/training
    The Menicon Group will provide appropriate education/training to our officers and employees to ingrain and reliably implement this Policy.
  5. Human rights due diligence
    The Menicon Group will establish and continuously implement a human rights due diligence system to fulfill our responsibility to respect human rights in accordance with the procedures described in detail in the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The human rights due diligence refers to a continuous process of proactively investigating and gaining knowledge to prevent or mitigate adverse human rights impacts we may have on the society, taking corrective measures with appropriate means, and disclosing the progress and results to external stakeholders.
  6. Dialogue/consultation
    The Menicon Group will leverage the expertise on human rights provided by independent external experts, as needed, in a series of initiatives set forth in this Policy, and we will sincerely maintain meaningful dialogue and consultations with those who may be affected by our business.
  7. Remedies
    If the Menicon Group has caused, contributed through dealings to, or been suspected of contributing to adverse impacts on human rights in the course of the business activities, we will take remedial actions through appropriate procedures and dialogues based on international standards.
  8. Information disclosure
    The Menicon Group will disclose the progress and results of our human rights efforts on our website, etc.
