Can we describe the Menicon GP surface treatment as a coating?
No: this is not an additional layer but a chemical treatment to re-organize lens surface using Oxygen gas at the plasma state (excited particles). The reactive oxygen species will react and break-up surface contaminants to purify the lens.The result is a perfect clean surface with better wettability. Depending on the process gas, treatment time, pressure…plasma treatments will show different results. The initial surface quality of the produced lens is important.
Why using GP solutions for GP lenses instead of soft lenses?
GP contact lens solutions are formulated with additional concentration of lubricants and wetting agents to increase comfort when inserting and during lens wear. In MeniCare Plus solution, the Hypromellose ingredient creates a lubricating film on lens surface to bring additional long lasting comfort. Yo can recommend this solution as a rinsing step before insertion.
