Menicon welcomes you to the X-Alps 2009 race, the amazing competition located in the European Alps, starting in Salzburg and finishing in Monaco.
The point of the race is to be first to arrive in Monaco. Contestants will paraglide and hike their way over alpine terrain. They will follow a set route, reaching 7 “turnpoints” before the final descent into Monaco harbor.
The racers will fly or hike depending on weather conditions. And they are competing in groups of two, the paraglider and one additional person for technical and tactical support.
X-Alps 2009 is an “extreme sport” mixed with strategy. Only 30 athletes have been selected to compete in this race sponsored by Red Bull.
The maximum time allowed for finishing the event will be 20 days, but when the first competitor reaches the finish, the race will terminate 2 days later. Only those that arrive within the additional 48 hours will be counted as having completed the X-Alps race.
